Human Trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery and a federal crime. Human trafficking is the trade of humans, most commonly for the purpose of sexual slavery, forced labor, or commercial sexual exploitation induced by force, fraud, or coercion. It is the fastest growing business of organized crime. It is estimated that more than 30 million people are enslaved worldwide today.
There are over 2,200 homeless children in NC and statistics show that 1 in 3 will be picked up by a pimp and sold within the first 48 hours of becoming homeless. Victims can be as young as 2 and as old as 60.
A victim may believe that if they leave, the trafficker will hurt their family. Victims may even become fearful of law enforcement There are organizations that provide housing and support for the survivors of human trafficking. These organizations partner within the community to provide the services needed for the recovering victims to transition back into society.
